Hello everyone !

Today, I would like to introduce you to or reintroduce you to the Roman camp of Vireux-Molhain, but from a particular angle: at the time when the sun sets. Some of you already know this place, but I hope to arouse the curiosity of those who have never visited it. For me, nothing is more soothing than sitting down to observe this natural spectacle.

To get started, simply go to the Roman camp parking lot (GPS coordinates: 50.085497, 4.719975). I chose the car, the journey from the Vireux-Wallerand tourist office takes about ten minutes. walking enthusiasts can opt for the hiking trail, a walk of around thirty minutes from the same starting point.

The site offers several panoramasMore only three allow you to admire the sunset in the best conditions.

A little tip: arrive 30 to 40 minutes before the posted sunset time to fully enjoy the light and the gradually changing atmosphere.

Then I arrived on the main path which leads to first point of view; you simply have to go straight. Be careful, I warn you for non-athletic people like me, this straight line is an uphill climb. But after the effort, the reward since the view is magnificent!

All along the way, I saw the villages of Vireux-Molhain and Vireux-Wallerand below. And if you want to sit down and enjoy a nice picnic, there is also two tables on the path as well as on the road leading to the camp.

At the end, I reached the first viewpoint, where there are the remains of the dam wall. This sunset view is magnificentThere are two viewpoints: one facing the villages, the other overlooking the fields and part of Vireux-Molhain, from where I chose to watch the sunset, sitting on a bench.

After looking and spending some time at this viewpoint, I went higher, where I discovered old steps which lead to another observation post. It is located on the former site of the southern feudal settlements, where a castle was built around 1280. This location also offers two benches and a clear view of the horizon.

To reach the most remarkable panorama of the Roman camp, you must descend these steps and follow the signs. However, from this point, the sunset is not visible.

I still took the time to stop by before returning to my spot to admire the sunset. This panorama will allow you to see a magnificent view over the entire territory.

Quick tip: If you're going during the summer, wear mosquito repellent spray!

Many other points of view await the curious on this site steeped in history. Now it's your turn to explore this place and share your own experience!
