La Pierre Roland

Legendary site of Pierre Roland.

One day Roland, the famous nephew of Charlemagne, crossed the valley of the Meuse to go to war against the enemies of his uncle Charlemagne.
He was riding in this dark valley, when he was taken to task by the Devil himself, who vowed an eternal hatred to the great emperor and to his people.

The Devil tore two huge boulders from the top of the mountain with the obvious intention of crushing Roland.
Our knight remained motionless, his arms outstretched, imploring the Lord.
The first stone passed over his head and rolled into the Meuse.
The second stone came to stick in the ground, just in front of his horse.
Furious, the Devil went away, defeated.

And since then, this stone commemorates Roland's victory over the Devil.
