The Chooz Nuclear Power Generation Center (CNPE) is located 10 kilometers from Givet and 60 kilometers from Charleville-Mézières and Namur in Belgium. Located on nearly 200 hectares in the heart of the Ardennes Regional Nature Park, it has two production units of 1450 megawatts each, of the latest generation pressurized water reactor type. In 2020, the Chooz nuclear power plant produced 12,77 TWh, which represents nearly 30% of the electricity consumption of the Grand-Est region.

Nearly 1000 people, employees of EDF or industrial partners, work all year round on the Chooz site. They carry out jobs in fields such as safety, operation, maintenance, engineering, the environment... From 1967 to 1991, EDF, in partnership with Belgium, operated a first unit, Chooz A With a power of 305 megawatts, it is the first pressurized water reactor in France. Since 2007, this unit has been in the process of being deconstructed. The Public Information Center welcomes you free of charge and without an appointment to introduce you to nuclear energy. It is open: - Outside school periods: only on Wednesdays from 13:30 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. - During French and Belgian school holidays: Monday to Friday from 13:30 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. Closed on weekends. Occasional openings during entertainment weekends The visit to the themed spaces, with an area of ​​300m², includes stands on: - the different means of electricity production - the nuclear fission reaction and the pellet manufacturing process of uranium- radioactivity- the controlled area and nuclear safety- environmental controls- waste - the Chooz A power plant being decommissioned and its model- the Chooz B power plant in operation, its model of the reactor building and a life-size fuel assembly- The films "It's not rocket science!" filmed in Chooz: the operating principle of a power plant, the energy mix and waste. - The plant's public information center also has a fun-educational escape game on the theme of energies accessible from 8 years old.
