Every year, the tradition continues in Givet with the famous Onion Fair , a festive event that brings together young and old in the heart of our beautiful Ardennes town. But did you know that this fair has its roots in the Middle Ages? At that time, farmers and merchants already gathered to sell their harvests, and the onion was a star of the market stalls thanks to its hardiness and numerous health benefits.
Today, the Onion Fair is not just about onions! It is a friendly atmosphere with stands of local products, passionate artisans, and entertainment for the whole family. You will also find culinary specialties from our region, demonstrations of know-how and many treasures to discover, not to mention the funfair that takes over Place Méhul and Place de la République for 3 weeks.
Fun fact: the fair used to be an opportunity for local singles to meet. A basket of onions could sometimes conceal a declaration of love or… a future wedding!
