Visite guidée groupes-Givet : ville frontalière

Givet illustrates the tormented historical past of this border region, located between two enemy kingdoms.

Givet, a border town between France and Belgium, illustrates the turbulent historical past of this region, which was a source of conflict between two enemy kingdoms.

Fortified by Charles V in the 16th century, Givet was redesigned by Vauban in the 17th century. Its narrow streets arranged in a semicircle, its ancient towers and its military fort give Givet its character.

Classified as one of the "most beautiful detours in France," this town on the Meuse also faces the river. Many illustrious figures come from Givet, such as Etienne Nicolas Méhul, the author of "Le Chant du Départ" (The Song of Departure).
